The chain won't last forever. Maybe a few hundred years. After that it will have been replaced by then. Or humanity will have gone extinct or something. Who knows.
The blockchain is a protocol. The Roman Empire road protocol is thousands of years old and still used today by railroads. It may not be used by men, but maybe by machines instead.
I bet there will always be people keeping copies as collectors, and I highly doubt humans will be extinct.
