Philips has agreed to pay $1.1 billion to settle lawsuits following the recall of defective Respironics sleep apnea devices in the US due to disintegrating foam that can be swallowed in pieces, causing irritation and headaches.

The company has also mentioned the possible development of cancer, but at the same time admits no fault or liability and denies that any injuries have been caused by Respironics devices.
