Now China is doing Social-Credit where every purchase or sale you make will affect your social credit score, what good is money if you can not chose what to spend it on without consequences.
Heard it can (probably obviously) greatly affect your ability to leave the country too.
A large portion of Chinese are not allowed to move anywhere outside of their birthplace if they do not fill get a permission from the state first, they control your movement.
It is even worse than that, you need permission to move within the country in a system called hukou. (residency registration). If you get blacklisted you get internally exiled.
