Capitalism has helped create the highest quality of life of all of human history. The fa t that you can even discuss these ideas instead of scrounging for food is proof of that.
This may be so but Capitalism is not enlightenment. It is ruthlessness seeking to devour all of the resources on the planet.
Maybe it has served it's purpose. Now we need to determine what is next?
I would argue that capitalism allows for more efficient use of resources. It does this not only through basic supply and demand, but through incentive to improve efficiency for profit.
