Yes, improved image support is planned. On-chain images are technically supported but only really work with big posts on SV.
It would be nice if all linked photos and videos worked, and not just YouTube, and Imgur.

uploading media to the mainnet, outside of text is pure retardation. Explore ipfs, sidechains, whatever, but don't fall for the retardation of the BSV cult.
Long term, storing images on-chain is just idiotic. You should research alternatives.
Pictures aren't getting larger. Standard transactions aren't getting smaller. If standard transactions (about a quarter kilobyte) get to be expensive then Bitcoin is broken. QED, onchain images must be cheap enough to be practical for as long as Bitcoin is functional.
