This is a really deep question and deserves more discussion. It seems like Jefferson is right, but as he himself witnessed history is punctuated with events that restore liberty.

if government 'solutions' weren't permanent it wouldn't continually gain ground (until they're is a punctuating event). by not permanent mean something like sunset provisions.

never understood why a law passed 200 years ago has to stay on the books (unless there is a large effort to remove it) when the world has changed so much.

government 'solutions' are easy but permanent. vulnerability in a secure website? just forbid people for using the bug.but market solutions are evolution & are stronger each generation
