"label: a classifying phrase or name applied to a person or thing, especially one that is inaccurate or restrictive." hmm, saw the word label as more neutral than that.

So when you label a person(including yourself) as "stupid" or "libertarian" or even "open minded", you're restricting that person's potential to adapt to the chaos of life.

Without labels how do we describe things? How do we discuss things?

We need to label things, but we don't need to make it an addiction.

calling someone a dancer now does not mean they can’t be a plumber in the future. Labeling them now does not limit what they do in the future.

Of course some labels are more restrictive than others. Anything with the suffix "ist" is particularly sticky.

If someone feels “restricted” by what another person thinks of them, that sounds like a personal issue. Gotta get over that.

That I agree with. I guess I'm talking more about labeling yourself. Big difference between calling yourself a "musician" and a "feminist", or even a "capitalist".

fair enough. gotta be willing to change. "All things change in a dynamic environment. Your effort to remain what you are is what limits you." - Ghost in the Shell

why label them as a person? maybe they feel like a wolf?
replied 2419d
I believe him when he says that in all ways expect physical he is a wolf. Somewhere out in the great plains there is a wolf that is a human in all ways except physical as well.
replied 2419d
hahaha. who knows maybe he'll be a modern day Romulus and Remus?
replied 2418d
Rome would have become Reme if only that brother won out:)
replied 2419d
hmm I just saw the word label as a classifying phrase. thus describing the person as they are now.

Labels are good for meat products, canned foods ect..it's difficult to tell what it is otherwise. It's also difficult to know what's inside a person(even if you are that person).
replied 2419d
Even if you have an accurate set of labels today, it will likely change tomorrow or in the future, like if the cans in the store swapped contents all the time;P
