Vin Armani fighting with CSW about the potential problems with zero fee txns making spam easier and hurting 0-conf. Any thoughts on this?

It is not the problem in zero fee txns, but in the varying relay policies across nodes/miners.

I think, we could allow free txs if we can all agree on a specific age the coins need to have before the free tx is relayed.

I agree. It worked on Bitcoin until 2013-2014. But maybe the level of traffic would be problematic. i.e. SPAM

If your coins need to have an age of let's say 6 blocks for it to be relayed, you wouldn't be able to spam.

Micro fees can be a good thing, but I'm worried about free txns if it allows spam. Because the txns fee, even if small, creates a specific value to the system which is lost when free.

Also, 0-conf is a unique selling point to merchant adoption that must be preserved. I'm not sure how it would hurt 0-conf, I still have to look into it.

I agree that keeping 0-conf is more important than 0-fee. UX is what will win, and people care more about speed than a microscopic fee.

What does UX stand for?

Short for user experience

It's basically a concurrent logic prob. These can be v. difficult to prevent lots of probs. It has to be really analyzed & logically proven to be safe, even then should be simulated.
replied 2357d
Even then, it could come down to it's likely to be safe except in extraordinary circumstances, in which cas it might be acceptable.

Actually it's easy. If 0 fee then 0-conf=0.
