They do not want to bet only on one digital asset, they set their bets on Ripple, and BCH. Ripple for a remittance infrastructure, BCH maybe for 'clearing purposes' as says that slide.
That's stupid. How is Ripple ($XRP?!) better than BCH for remittances? You could get exactly the same functionality on BCH!
AFAIK xrp is permissioned, works well between trusted parties. BCH is cash, can be used freely by anyone. Seems to me both can live side by side.

Better is beside the point, they have first mover advantage and they're already making partnerships with banks..it'll cost them less money to work with XRP and ripple now they've begun
I think you only get he same functionality if there's a ton of liquidity on both currency pairs. Otherwise you have to charge for the spread and the banking from the exchange to fiat.
Ripple, as a company, has more money, and is more connected with other banks, and is pushing very focused and hard in that ecosystem for that goal.
