Of course. But if it is true that we "cannot ignore the consequences ...", why is it then not also true that we "cannot ignore reality"? The consequences are there either way.
You can ignore that boots are stepped on others head, but not your own. Possible to ignore the bills, but you will not be able to ignore the consequences having ignored the bills.
You can think of it like: There are some realities that you can ignore, but doing so will put you in a situation were realities that you can not ignore (consequences) show up.
