I can't for the life of me figure out why removing the block cap entirely(or baking the increase in like the halving) is so controversial.
IMO it's a lack of extensive experimentation/testing. Networks this big are complex beasts - slight changes can have unforseen and widespread side effects. Caution is good, in theory.
I know I know but nobody has even described a possible attack vector. It's not even part of their arguments. Trying to propagate a strange block carries extreme risk of being orphaned.
