After the BCH upgrade miners stopped mining txns under 1 sat/b. Some memos have been stuck in mempool. After waiting 2 days, we've decided to pull the plug and clear unconfirmed txns from our mempool.

Did they include txns under 1 sat/b before the upgrade? I tried to create txns with fees lower than that, but never managed to get it onto the network.

If I was a merchant, I won't accept txs under 1 sat/byte to avoid double spend https://doublespend.cash/

Completely agree.

Transaction cost shouldn't be measured in sat/b - BCH is volatile, trx cost should not be - see BTC for why that's a bad idea. usd/b would be better

ETH's "gas" is great from a UX perspective, but it's just an abstraction. How would USD/B work?
Mailing miners paper cash? Transaction fees need to be in the coin of the realm.

The fee would be be paid in sats of course, but when miners are choosing minimum fees, they should be thinking in terms of usd/byte - it's not good for 1sat/byte to become sticky

I agree that an artificial floor may form at 1sat/byte unless miners have dynamic fees tied to fiat price. However, I disagree that this is the underlying reason for BTC's fee issues.
