What does the term "9.7% of the land of Canada is privately held" mean to you? What you are talking about is an irrelevant technicality that is also true in the US.
"Hold" and "own" are absolutely two different words. It's not a technicality. Who owns US land?
Look into the history of land disputes before you go too far. Every nation can take your property. Hell the US will just claim it was to do with drugs.
