The fact that Bitcoin mining shows up on that chart at all when it probably accounts for less than 3% of all financial activity globally should disturb you.
It doesn't. It's just a matter of time when it will be replaced by POS or something even more energy efficient. We are at the end of the "steam engine" era - POW.
There would definitely be split coins if some BCH devs decided to drop POW. For many, POW is the foundation of what makes Bitcoin secure.
