Rhetorical battles are mostly about controlling language and framing, which labels is a tool for. Avoiding labels is good for anyone not wanting to partake in the battle for them.
"label: a classifying phrase or name applied to a person or thing, especially one that is inaccurate or restrictive." hmm, saw the word label as more neutral than that.
So when you label a person(including yourself) as "stupid" or "libertarian" or even "open minded", you're restricting that person's potential to adapt to the chaos of life.
That I agree with. I guess I'm talking more about labeling yourself. Big difference between calling yourself a "musician" and a "feminist", or even a "capitalist".
fair enough. gotta be willing to change. "All things change in a dynamic environment. Your effort to remain what you are is what limits you." - Ghost in the Shell
I believe him when he says that in all ways expect physical he is a wolf. Somewhere out in the great plains there is a wolf that is a human in all ways except physical as well.
Labels are good for meat products, canned foods ect..it's difficult to tell what it is otherwise. It's also difficult to know what's inside a person(even if you are that person).
Even if you have an accurate set of labels today, it will likely change tomorrow or in the future, like if the cans in the store swapped contents all the time;P
