Mining based funding of BCH devs is critical to reduce reliance on funding from Nchain/CSW/Ayre. Nchain/coingeek will fight this proposal tooth and nail.

I fully agree with you as long as we do not graft it into the protocol. How do you think it should be done?
replied 2374d
Not sure about the implementation details but I really want CSW to walk away from BCH.

CSW came out as SN because it was part of his contract with nChain - he did NOT came out because he was doxd but because it was profitable for him to self-promote and advertise nChain!

Wasn't he outed well before nChain was formed? I first heard nChain long after Dec 2015 which is when the Wired story went out (https://bch.gg/3f)

nChain could have been the desired result of his plan.

Why do you want CSW to walk away from BCH?

because his academic papers are of no use to bitcoin. And the very idea of a state backed patent is antithetical to bitcoin.

How are his papers of no use to BCH? I agree with you on patents being enforced by the state and that is wrong. But I see it as a defensive move to retain the IP to the BCH Chain ONLY.
replied 2373d
Reasonable if nchain is a "true" supporter of p2p cash. The difficulty is if there is a successful capture attempt of the BCH chain and a fork is needed. Which one will nchain support?

Re-read their "open license". It is retaining the IP to no one but themselves.

Is this Bad or Good? I'm really not sure @im_uname. As I understand it, the IP is free to use for any developers in the Bitcoin Cash blockchain. Does nChain have an endGame?

Your understanding is wrong.

"Just like Microsoft's Limited Public License has a platform limitation for free usage, nChain's license limits free usage to the Bitcoin Cash blockchain." https://prn.to/2qBCqxM

It is not free for any developers on BCH. It is free for developers who ask and get permission - big difference. Actually read the damn license, not just PR release.

Why don't you post these on the relevant topic?
replied 2363d
What's a topic and how can I classify my memo by topic?
replied 2363d
A topic is a category for posts. Anyone can create a topic by clicking on the ‘topics’ link (https://memo.cash/topics). You can then organise your posts into a relevant topic 👍

A dev who's funded is a dev who can be influenced unduly.

I think there is something to say for business model of devs having a stake by investing in BCH and growing value of their investment by improving value of the network.

Definitely something to be said for that, maybe more so for businesses that should be hiring the devs. (Miners mostly, for now.) It's a lot of risk to bank on price rise for income.
