Set default profile name as Anonymous instead of random text. Not all of us want or care about usernames - we just want to participate in discussion whilst contributing to the BCH network

The text differentiates people (e.g. if multiple anonymous people were replying to each other). Otherwise it would be hard to follow the conversation. It could be shortened though.

Here's an idea, have it go Anonymous-1H8Q39XmWC... (So you only show the first 10 or so of the key.

How about something like gfycat where you have a list of adjectives and animal names/nouns & you use the 1st & 2nd 1/3 bits to modulo index the adjectives, then the last 3rd for noun.

Then people would be automatically assigned a name like "Voracious Sedentary Aardvark". Maybe it could warn when they set up acct that that is their name until they change it.

That does sound a lot friendlier :) Thanks for the suggestion!

The work is already done for you too if you want Gfycat-style names: https://www.npmjs.com/package/gfycat-style-urls

this sounds like a nice fun approach, everyone is already anonymous as memo dont have KYC,
this would look much prettier than using the address

I like seeing the PKH if they didn't set a name. Maybe show the cashaddr instead of base58, and shorten the cashaddr as "xxxx...yyyy" by showing the first 4 and last 4.

I like that format, thanks. As for cash address, I think it's great for situations where you need to differentiate between BTC/BCH but since Memo doesn't use BTC that's not an issue.

why?

"Anonymous" doesn't provide any data or context. Can't have a conversation with "Anonymous" because you can't follow the thread of messages. Everyone has an address, we should use it.

i thought one of the huge benefits Memo brings,
is the absence of anonymous trolls misinforming people....

People have a comment history, but it is possible to be here anonymously if the person is making an effort to not link their BCH address to their ID.
