I'm planning to organize a massive giveaway for new memo users from other platforms when Pings @, Hashtags # and private messages (encrypted or not) will be fully functional on memo.

@TrashPoster those are all planned for medium term. Also have plans to start new accounts off with a few sats but no tipping or key export until they fund it.

Good to hear. Will you set an address so people can contribute to the newbee funding?
replied 2934d
Yes, that's a good idea.
replied 2934d
I would like to see the topics page replaced by hashtags.
replied 2934d
Not a bad idea. The concepts are definitely similar and could be combined. We'll see how it evolves.

XV in your Telegram, can you @ me in the chat when you do so I can share please?
replied 2934d
Can you explain how private messages would work in 184 characters? To me it seems counter intuitive to a public blockchain. Just curious. :)
replied 2934d
Encrypted data isn't necessarily that big. The chances of your data being cracked is about equal to chances bitcoin signatures are cracked. Quantum computers in the future may though.
replied 2934d
How likely is it that quantum computers could become mainstream before important infrastructure upgrades their cryptography?
replied 2934d
Since the encrypted messages are written to the blockchain indefinitely, someone could go back and decrypt old messages.
replied 2934d
The NSA is keeping a record of everything sent over ISP channels. Someone at least potentially has these messages anyway. Anything sent over the internet has this problem.
replied 2934d
That's a really good point, I hadn't thought of that. While likelihood of storage is much lower with internet traffic, it's still possible.
replied 2934d
What is more important, that their is a model for storing data, that is _not_ advertisement driven and that does not vanish as long as you pay for it.

Keyport is doing that. 184 caracters is not a problem, you just have to send the message in multiples transactions, and encrypt it with the public address of the receiver
replied 2934d
nice! do you think absence of this features is real reason why people still use old fashion shitty spy networks?

It certainly doesn't help. That I can tell you.
replied 2934d

I’m planning to redirect people to a thread I will create on /r/btc so people can drop the link of their new memo profile.
