The SLP double spends are an issue for Memo servers. Have to clean them up almost daily.
replied 1604d
How do they come about?
replied 1604d
I don't know the source. It's usually Honk tokens though.
asd
replied 1604d
People are exploiting a bug with the liking system. You can re-like anything as much as you want.

asd
replied 1604d
also this is spamming
replied 1604d
It's an open network. If they want to pay the TX fees that's their choice. You can mute them if you want
asd
replied 1604d
Right! But still shouldn't we not be able to give a post infinite likes since that generates fake "popularity"?
asd
replied 1604d
The purpose of liking were always to indicate popularity or acceptance of a post in social media. But this bug breaks this function completely.
asd
replied 1601d
I‌ respect you for creating this protocol and the website. But if you care about improving it and not let it go to waste then I at least hope you’ll think about what I had to say.
Cryptacritic
replied 1602d
You are correct memo. There is fundamentally no way to stop a person from advertising their own content by self-spamming likes, without removing the permissionlessness from Member/Memo
Cryptacritic
replied 1602d
. In fact, I'd say having spam is a positive sign in two ways, 1) It signifies our social network is valuable because it's worth spamming, and 2) It inherently adds value to the
asd
replied 1601d
😂 you can’t be serious! It’s the opposite. Our valuable social network wont worth shit if nobody’s going to use it due to spamming.
Cryptacritic
replied 1601d
Nobody's gonna bother spamming it if there's no value to leech off of.
asd
replied 1601d
...yes
Cryptacritic

network by paying miners for their services. It's certainly not hard to mute bad actors. And maybe in the future there can be voluntarily organized mute lists organized by trustworthy
asd
replied 1601d
wow! Sure it gives SO‌ MUCH value to the network by giving the fees not to you but the miners who’s then dumps the fuk out of it on you.
asd
replied 1601d
How is that good for you? Don’t give to much credit to miners they aren’t saints.
Cryptacritic
replied 1602d
individuals and available to anyone (not by default) upon looking for one.
asd
replied 1601d
and drop this “muting is easy” bullshit already! It’s not about me being annoyed with spam but knowing OUR posts will have a hard time reaching the people because of this.
Cryptacritic
replied 1601d
Sounds like we should just build an advertising tool on the blockchain. Whatever the spammer can do, you can do too.
asd
replied 1601d
Nobody seem to give a shit about user experience or adaption it seems.
Cryptacritic
replied 1601d
The user experience on both Memo and Member is pretty low budget. What's your magical solution to "bad spamming" that doesn't defeat the purpose of an uncensorable blockchain?
replied 1601d
Actually, if memo aggregated the actions like twitter. eg several likes for the same post) then it would be better already. This was asked about a year ago but he doesn't give a shit.
Cryptacritic
replied 1601d
Can you elaborate? I don't really know what you're asking.
asd
replied 1601d
I have already answered that. ‌And by bringing up the blockchain I can tell you’re either mentally ill or does not have a flying fucking clue how’s Memo or the protocol works.
asd
replied 1601d
...no offense but educate yourself or something
Cryptacritic
replied 1601d
No u
asd
replied 1601d
lmao ass licking at it’s finest. You think you can’t change a tiny feature without hurting your ability to already post and like whatever the fuck you want with no censorship?
asd
replied 1601d
This bug is just as bad and makes just as much sense as INFINITE‌ FOLLOWING for example. (Ive seen cases on that too)
asd
replied 1601d
According to your bullcrap that would be equally as important to not fix if that would be the case.
asd
replied 1604d
Btw me muting him is one thing but this whole incident is worsens the chances of quality posts being discovered and that’s a problem for all of us.
asd
replied 1604d
Since we can't just rely on people collectively muting every spammers or “exploiters” or believing they even know how to do it and not lazy to do so.
replied 1604d
You're calling for all kind of limitation on a permissionless developed system.
Ever been to Reddit ? Has all the Stasi-features you seem to crave...
replied 1604d
You have severe misconceptions. memo.cash (the front end) is not permission-less.

With memo like social media the frontend is the point of control.
replied 1603d
There's always some point of control.

As soon as Member gets on the desktop / standalone, Memo will become a whole lot more decentralized.
replied 1603d
No idea what your talking about... I used the term permissionless to indicate that there is noone formally speccing what Memo or Member should be...
replied 1603d
... or where it should be hosted... I tried to make my own contribution by porting Member to the cloud.
https://member-cloud.herokuapp.com
Next up will be a reactive web 3.0 version.
replied 1602d
It looks very good, but I can't log in.
replied 1601d
Thanks, I've broken a couple of things, please check back soon :D
replied 1603d
As Twatter said, the frontend is a point of control. You control that cloud app.
There's nothing inherently wrong with it.

Memo is an open protocol. Agreed on permissionless.
Cryptacritic
replied 1602d
Wanting to put controls on Decentralized social media is literally the thing we're trying to avoid.
asd
replied 1602d
You are demonizing me for pointing out a bug/exploit in the system. You just trying to sound smart but you have no idea what you're talking about.
Cryptacritic
replied 1602d
You can't have spam in a system that explicitly makes you pay for usage. That's an investment, a dishonest one, sure, but it still benefits the network. And everyone is free to mute.
asd
replied 1601d
Yes you can! Especially in this case where it’s so easy and cheap to do so and the goal is to boost your popularity. You are actually investing in yourself.
Cryptacritic
replied 1601d
Try liking yourself 100 times. Or 1000 times. 100* the minimum you can send (~500) is 500,000 sats, or 0.005 BCH. 1000 would be 0.05 BCH. "Easy" is definitely relative here.
replied 1601d
these could be very easily filtered.
asd
replied 1601d
Mr.Memo guy even put a ranked system in place what takes it into account how much likes you get and thinking it is fine to cheat it at the same time. Hilarious!
Cryptacritic
replied 1602d
What I said isn't wrong. It's a useful fact to remember for people who think they can curate other people out of existence.
asd
replied 1603d
"all kind of limitations" Hostile much? I'm calling for only ONE thing and that is a bug fix 😅 This is not in place on purpose, it's a design flaw.
asd
replied 1603d
No social media with a brain allows people to infinite like any post. Not even the decentralized ones. Steemit etc...
replied 1603d
Are we in a competition?
Memo was en never will be any good as a social media platform, but it has a place and a real everyday use.
Most of us just put up with the loose ends...
asd
replied 1603d
No not in competition at all. We just have a limit for bullshit. Bugs needs to be fixed, exploits needs to be fixed. This is how stuff works. To make everyone's experience better.
asd
replied 1603d
If we don't care about user experience then why would we even have this or any other platform in the first place? To not have people use it or to loose the tiny amount we still have?
asd
replied 1603d
Not a competition but we need a healthy growth of users to make sense all of this and we also need to keep the ones we already have.
asd
replied 1603d
Otherwise what? No users and I'm just gonna talk to myself here?
asd
replied 1603d
Fixing something broken on the FRONT‌ END will not pose any threat to the whole permissionless system.
asd
replied 1603d
It’s like I was suggesting to change the color design of the site to something else and then you'd come here demonizing me for limiting people’s free speech. You know what I mean?
asd
replied 1604d
This means our posts are getting damaged by this and pays the price of stolen attention.
asd
replied 1604d
another thing: the numbers shows that only very few people are going out their way to actually mute a “spammer“.
asd
replied 1604d
Does this mean that the rest of them just loves getting spammed in their face? No! They are just probably not bothered to deal with this.
asd
replied 1604d
Therefore the posts and the whole sites quality and UX is getting abused!
replied 1604d
I do agree with the annoyance of it... but if they chose to do it, they pay for it. As a user, you can block and move on.. also.. it’s not tough to scroll through and see real post
asd
replied 1604d
Sure it's not tough to scroll through but your post will still less likely reach to the people.
replied 1604d
I do not disagree at all
replied 1604d
I love this kind of thing. Like when we started using emoticons as labels for SLP;
Now you can throw someone the horns or mark a post as shit...
Just because people thought it up...
asd
replied 1603d
Are you seriously telling me you like SPAM?
replied 1604d
...That was never designed, just a collective finding of a new Use Case that needed 0 new code or effort.
replied 1604d
This is people still adapting to an application and finding new uses.
This guy is just liking him self very much, nothing broken, nothing to do with double spend.
asd
replied 1603d
It is very broken and of course it has nothing to do with double spend. 😂
The reason I wrote it here cuz there's no other way to message someone other than commenting on his posts
replied 1603d
Click new, send...?
asd
replied 1603d
No wonder I couldn't find it. This should not be just an "optional feature" for money sending. Another flaw noted. I will write a list of improvement needed and present it to the dev.
asd
replied 1603d
thx for letting me know tho
asd
replied 1603d
See? Another broken or more precisely a missing option. Can I even properly @ people?
replied 1604d
No, it's just a spammer with a mental illness.
replied 1604d
...shure, in this particular case. But who are you to judge ?
replied 1604d
I'm someone whose feed was flooded with retarded spam and who doesn't even bother to check the "everyone" feed anymore due to these retarded spammers.
replied 1604d
No it is not, he paid good money for these likes. Besides I think he is paying one of his friends a dollar every time they click like. Just a theory though lol
replied 1604d
Maybe by using honk.casa?
