In the long term (like when BCH is widely used as a currency / high market cap) do you see forks getting less political? Seems they’ll only get worse as stakes are higher.

This is why we need to build as much governance into the protocol as possible. The issue is agreeing on the protocol now that we already have an existing network in full motion.

yeah, what I'm worried about. seems like we haven't solved the political "attack vector". seems like any change no matter how small can be blown out of proportion by politics.

maybe its just that people aren't comfortable with letting majority hash power decide? idk.

Humans suck, and will inevitably fuck up wherever we are allowed to. Also why block size cap needs to be set programatically (like difficulty) ASAP.

I can't for the life of me figure out why removing the block cap entirely(or baking the increase in like the halving) is so controversial.

IMO it's a lack of extensive experimentation/testing. Networks this big are complex beasts - slight changes can have unforseen and widespread side effects. Caution is good, in theory.

I know I know but nobody has even described a possible attack vector. It's not even part of their arguments. Trying to propagate a strange block carries extreme risk of being orphaned.

I'm hoping we can have a permanent protocol in place by late next year. These code monkeys need to work on useful products, not messing around with little pet projects.
replied 2313d
Unfortunately, I think Bitcoin is in no position to remain "permanent" any time soon. Hardware demands, network capabilities, etc will mean node implementations need to const. evolve.

Software can shape hardware development as much as the other way around. A great example is ASIC miners. Once we have a protocol set in stone, hardware companies can start making gear.
replied 2313d
True, but until Bitcoin gains more significant influence over the world of computer hardware and networking, we are at the whims of the rapidly changing world that cares little for us

All the bottlenecks are all solved by the internet getting faster and bandwidth increasing. These things are happening anyways so ABC is optimizing for a problem that may never come.

Yes I think I missed the part where anybody asked for the features they are putting in. Some asked for opgroup if I recall.

Will be interesting to see if they capitulate. Nobody is screaming for the changes they insist on including, they're only complaining that people object to it. Reminds me of Segwit.
