Is there an article about why?
replied 2766d
I feel like readers figure out the why for themselves. Maybe that is the wrong attitude to have.

Aren't there downsides to immortality?
replied 2766d
There are downsides to everything.
anarchovegan
replied 2766d
There are upsides to everything.

Agreed. The glass can always be half full if you choose to see it that way.
Simon Van Gelder

Only those things with sides.
anarchovegan
replied 2766d
Everything has a silverlining.
Simon Van Gelder
replied 2765d
Only things with sides. Where's the silver lining of a Möbius strip?
anarchovegan
replied 2765d
At the edge, especially when put up against the sun.
Simon Van Gelder
replied 2765d
An edge with a surface area would require depth. Where is the silver lining of a point "cloud"? You only get sides when you abstract, and you can only guild when you have sides.
anarchovegan
replied 2765d
Clouds are where we get silver lining From. Even on a computer screen, a mobius strip has depth at the edge! Could you explain your last sentence?
Simon Van Gelder
replied 2765d
A Möbius strip by definition on has one side.
anarchovegan
replied 2765d
Yes, and therewith, an edge.
Simon Van Gelder
replied 2765d
An edge with no surface area to be lined.
anarchovegan
replied 2765d
How so?
Simon Van Gelder
replied 2765d
Exactly: the *abstraction* of a cloud (it being an ominous thing, with non-silver sides) is what we imagine has a silver lining: the physical cloud itself has no sides, and no lining.
anarchovegan
replied 2765d
Not if the sun isn't shining on it.
The analogy and correlation is that of our awareness and consciousness shining light on our life situation, which might be very cloudy indeed.
Simon Van Gelder
replied 2765d
And my point is that the ability to shine light is dependent upon first viewing the cloud in a bad light.
anarchovegan
replied 2765d
Yes, and [dark] clouds are often represented as someone having a bad time, with the sun coming through later as a sign of things going better.

Defeating aging isn't immortality. Defeating aging only means that people won't die because of aging most of the time. Ask Deadpool, though. 🙂
anarchovegan

...isn't aging the main cause of death?
Fnuller15
replied 2766d
Life is the main cause of death
replied 2766d
All fungi are edible. Some fungi are only edible once.
anarchovegan
replied 2766d
Indeed. You can't age without being alive.
Therefore, there should only be life.
Death by aging should be elimiated.
replied 2765d
"But death is the only reason to live!" "If you live forever and don't die naturally, your not human and need to be shot to end your "suffering"" Actual arguments I've heard.
anarchovegan
replied 2765d
Well. Those arguments are horrifying.
replied 2765d
About 2/3rds of all deaths on earth is due to aging. That's about 100000 ppl daily. If aging is defeated about 50000 ppl will still die each day
Metalbrushes_Tattoo

Without death the world will become overpopulated and the resources that we need to survive will become depleted. Aging and death is an important/essential part of life.
replied 2765d
Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, believes that our solar system can support at least 1 trillion humans. Overpopulation is not a real concern.
Metalbrushes_Tattoo
replied 2765d
If there was 1 trillion people on earth then the entire world would be like Shanghai China. People bumping into people lol we would all be living in tiny boxes stacked on more boxes
replied 2765d
Solar system. Not earth

What do you mean by defeating aging?
replied 2765d
By defeat aging, I mean that therapies are developed so that humans still die from all causes still, except age related death. Most diseases are consequences of biological aging.
anarchovegan
replied 2765d
What are "age ones related to death"?
Are you saying that most diseases are caused by aging?
replied 2765d
Yes. Heart disease, stroke, cancer, etc - the biggest risk factor is aging. Aging is really bad for you, just like smoking cigarettes is.
anarchovegan
replied 2765d
What is aging?

What kind of therapies did you have in mind?

Sens therapies. That wikipedia page describes them sens.org does to
