Since the community was censored,big blockers atempted to give the tools directly to miners but they were too afraid of the threats coming from the Core/Blockstream devs to make a move

Nobody from the big block side trusted this last shaddy attempt to activate Segwit, Bitcoin Cash was born to dodge the Segwit bullet at the very last minute.

While Bitcoin Unlimited was gaining steem, there was the UASF movement led by Blockstream. Which finally led to Bitcoin 2X. Bitcoin 2X was Segwit first then 2 MB blocks 3 months after.
