Buddhism can be applied to human relationships. The Buddhist concept of non-attachment is not about not caring; it is about caring deeply without demanding that things stay the same. Attachment (Upadana) is rooted in the ego. It says: "I love you because of how you make me feel, and I need you to stay exactly this way so I can continue to feel secure." This is essentially using the partner as a tool for emotional regulation. Non-attachment is rooted in reality. It says: "I love you for who you are. I recognise that you will change, and one day we will part, but I choose to walk beside you and support your growth without trying to cage you."
