I always felt that they just put those two technologies next to each other and said "combined them", with no real justification. Also IoT is a horrible thing (not just) securitywise.
I know iota can allow for microtransactions that at least BTC cannot hope to match pricewise, but still it seemed dubious that it would become the only/best solution in future
