blocksize limit is not the only issue, there are various bottlenecks in block validation. it is unlikely we'll see blocks > 8MB today, unless a miner is ready to risk an orphan.

while you are right, I sincerely hope that at least someone tries to make a block larger than 8mb - so we get to see in practice what happens.
that the miner most likely loses 12.5 BCH i.e. about 7 grand. we shall see if someone does it for science.
