A Sputnik correspondent has visited the US border town of Eagle Pass, where Governor Greg Abbott has surged national guard troops from Texas and other Republican-led states to erect razor wire and other barriers in an effort to block migrants from entering the US.

As a result of the efforts, the number of migrants crossing via Eagle Pass has dropped from 6,000-8,000 to about 20 a day, a Florida state trooper deployed at Shelby Park told Sputnik.

The state trooper accused the Biden administration of doing nothing to quell migration.
