If you have some issues, that your desktop sometimes freezes, I recommend installing this service: https://github.com/rfjakob/earlyoom and changing vm.swappiness to 1

I found out using this earlyoom thing wasn't as good as I thought. Random programs closing too early.

It usally freezes when you run out of both RAM and swap.

Thank you, very useful. Do you recommend setting swappiness to 1 even when using a SSD?

I have done so with SSD. I have 8GB RAM which is quite useless without swap. If you have much RAM I guess you can just disable swap totally.
