I think modern science has become somewhat of a cult and public schools are a propaganda arm. You're not being taught to be curious you're being taught to obey and repeat.

No I think it's deeper than that. They didn't mean to do it, it just happened as a result of their fear of losing the "arbiter of truth" status.

once clones all meaning for 'self' disappears, authority of self handed over to a 'body' of authority.

Meaning is misconstrued during that process.
