WHY aren't the wounded given a drink?

Only those wounded in the stomach or head.

From a punctured stomach or intestine, water with half-digested food can leak into the abdomen, increasing the chance of peritonitis. And with head injuries, a person can choke if he or she loses consciousness while drinking.

Even in case of a large blood loss, drinking is necessary.
