He was trolling when he suggested that. He knew it'd drive the media nuts, and it did. I imagine he's got lists of things to say to get a similar effect. (eg. "horseface")

This always comes up: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/term-limits/ But the "President for life" thing was clearly a joke.
