Well, the reality is that it is time consuming and expensive to transport, but no more so than gold, and it is much harder to steal. I'm not trying to take sides here, I hold a basket of cryptos, I just know smart people who hold BTC, they aren't crazy.
But gold doesn't hold value because of use in electronics. The idea of the gold is you keep it in a warehouse and issue sheets of paper backed by it. Think of it like Gresham's law, the most valuable coins never get spent, that's not irrational.
