🐋Scientists have decoded what they believe is a "sperm whale phonetic alphabet" using Artificial Intelligence, according to a research published by Project Cetacean Translation Initiative.
They analyzed dozens of recordings and found that sperm whales make clicking sounds, the rhythm and pace of which depends on the context of their conversation. This helps the animals to make group decisions and plan cooperative activities like gathering food and caring for calves. The researchers discovered 143 frequently occurring combinations.
The researchers believe that AI will eventually enable humans to learn to communicate with the whales, which would become the first human-to-animal communication in history.
How do we measure the distances to things in space?
There are a few primary methods used to measure distances to objects in space:
Parallax:For relatively nearby objects within our own galaxy, we can use the parallax effect. This involves measuring the apparent shift in position of an object against the background as observed from two different locations (such as the Earth at different times of the year). The degree of parallax shift is inversely proportional to the distance.
Redshift:For distant galaxies and other extragalactic objects, we can use the redshift of their light to estimate their distance. As objects move away from us, their light is shifted towards longer, redder wavelengths, and the degree of redshift is proportional to the recession velocity, which is in turn related to the distance via Hubble's law.
Standard Candles: Astronomers can use "standard candles" - objects of known intrinsic brightness, like certain types of stars or supernovae. B...
What is the difference between Identical Twins and Fraternal Twins?
Identical twins, also known as monozygotic twins, are formed when a single fertilized egg splits in two and develops into two separate embryos. Since they come from the same egg, they share the same DNA and genetic material, which is why they often look very similar or identical. This rare phenomenon occurs in about 3 in every 1,000 births.
Fraternal twins, on the other hand, are formed when two separate eggs are fertilized by two different sperm. They have different DNA and genetic material, just like regular siblings, and may look similar or dissimilar. Fraternal twins are more common than identical twins, occurring in about 6 in every 1,000 births.
The key difference between identical and fraternal twins lies in their origin and genetic makeup. Identical twins are formed from a single egg and share the same DNA, while fraternal twins are formed from two separate eggs and have different DNA. This differ...
The water supply systems in Warsaw and some other Polish cities use clams as live sensors.
They are connected to water that needs to enter the city's water supply, and if it contains any contaminants such as heavy metals or pesticides, the clam shells close.
The computer system monitors this thanks to the coils and magnets installed on the flaps and automatically shuts off the water supply until specialists can conduct the necessary tests.
When you come to the edge of all the light you know, and are about to step off into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing one of two things will happen: There will be something solid to stand on, or you will be taught how to fly.
The right person will know how to hold your love. The right person will choose you just as deeply as you choose them.
You will not have to quiet the way you care, you will never feel like you are too much. You will not have to beg for the love you deserve. One day, you will be met where you are.
One day, you will be someone's favorite thing, and you will not be confused, you will not feel like you are fighting for someone who isn't fighting for you.
One day, you will understand that it never mattered how tightly you held on to the wrong people, how intensely you tried, because the right people were always going to find you. The right people were always going to stay.
When you experience excitement, your thoughts trigger the pituitary gland to tell the adrenal glands to release adrenaline. This pulls blood to your lungs and muscles (to activate your fight-or-flight response) and away from your stomach. Boom! There are your butterflies.
Greenland sharks don't reach sexual maturity until they're 150.
Greenland sharks, which are also known as gurry sharks or grey sharks, tend to live long lives. As the longest-living vertebrate on the planet, they can swim around the ocean for up to 400 years and don't reach sexual maturity until they're 150.
For instance, gubans and parrotfish can change from females to males. From the eggs of these fish, mostly females hatch. They mature, lay eggs one or more times, and then turn into males. Ladies generally do not like to grow old, so in the case of these fish species, nature meets them halfway.
Young fish are mostly females; experienced fish are males. In clownfish families, there is a strict hierarchy. The female becomes the largest individual, followed by the male and juveniles. One coral polyp can live only one dominant pair.
The female bites the male by the fins, reminding him who the master of the house, and the parents together mushtet young. If the female dies, the male gets a "higher social status" and becomes the female. The role of the male begins to be played by the largest of the remaining "in the house" juveniles.
Thus, in one lifetime, many reef fish manage to try themselves in two hypostasis ...
