It's custom software because it doesn't need to be a full node, it only needs memo txns. It uses the btcd library, which is another full-node implementation in Go.

Okay, a bunch of my messages just disappeared from the blockchain. What happened?
If you go by some estimates, we are quite likely one of the first intelligent species in the universe. There might not be a great filter at all. We are about as early as we can be.
Terraforming technology, the ability to become self-sufficient in space and colonization of other worlds will make the great filter less of a threat.
There is a laundry list of civilization ending conflicts potentially heading our way. We are doing nothing about any of them. The best we can do is hope none of them work. Or bet on close calls.
But no. Let's just bury our heads in the sand and wait until the only planet we live on is destroyed when we can't be bothered to spread out elsewhere.
By the time we even attempt to venture outside our own galaxy, i think we'll have sustainablity worked out.
