Scandals are irrelevant. The only things that can stop Bitcoin now are an extinction event or the discovery of free energy.
I think algorithms based on your own circle of trust is going to be the way forward. There could be a market for the most useful memo algorithms as well as human selected follow lists.

You could simply discard or discount votes from people you don't follow.

As painful as it was to see Bitcoin fork on August 1st 2017. Looking back, its proof that the very fabric of Bitcoin's creation and its decentralised nature allowed it to morph back into itself - BCH chain is BITCOIN
The painful part was waiting two long years for the fork to finally happen.
You know what would be an awesome feature? Chained transactions for longer messages + having an optional tick box on Yours.org to post longer-form writing to the blockchain, for however many tx fees it costs.
Not just writing, with chained memos we could pay to archive anything and everything.
