Chinese Firm Wraps Up Liechtenstein Bank
Thursday, 5 April 2018 06:55 | Written by Katharina Bart
Mason Group, Raiffeisen Private Bank, Liechtenstein
A Chinese finance firm has wrapped up a deal to buy a private bank in Liechtenstein. It is the most recent of a spate of Chinese deals in Europe's finance hubs. What is the attraction?

Hong Kong's Mason Group has cemented its purchase of Raiffeisen Private Bank in Liechtenstein, the two banks said in a statement. The Vaduz-based private bank's assets stood at more than one billion Swiss francs ($1.04 billion) in October, when the deal was first disclosed.

Raiffeisen has clients from Germany, Austria, Spain, Liechtenstein, Russia and Switzerland, including external asset managers. It is the latest European finance firm to go to a Chinese buyer. Germany has been the largest recipient of Chinese foreign direct investment thus far, but several finance deals have made waves. The move follow...

WHY THE NAZIS LEFT THE STATE OF LIECHTENSTEIN ALONE
A Mid-European Pocket Handkerchief
Principality Provided a Business Refuge
By a Special Correspondent
HIDDEN in a fold of the
mountains on the border
of Switzerland and Nazi-occu-

smallest States-the 65-square
mile principality of Liechten-
stein.
It is one of the paradoxes of war
that, while practically every other
neutral on the Continent is looking to
its defences for protection from ag-
gression, Liechtenstein's 11,000-odd
citizens have gone on in the old,
unflurried way and the country has
remained completely unarmed.
A recent London cable message
made clear one of the reasons why

Pope defends China deal on bishops, says he will have final say on names
Philip Pullella

ABOARD THE PAPAL PLANE (Reuters) - Pope Francis on Tuesday defended a landmark deal between the Vatican and China on the appointment of bishops, saying he, and not the Beijing government, will have the final say on who is named.

In his first public comments on the deal signed in Beijing on Saturday, he told reporters on the plane returning from a trip to the Baltics that while he realizes not everyone will understand the logic behind the agreement, he was confident in the "great faith" of Chinese Catholics.

"It's not (that the government) names them. It is a dialogue. But the pope will appoint them. Let that be clear," he said of the deal, which was more than 10 years in the making.

Swiss police detained 32 Tibetan and Swiss nationals protesting against a visit by Chinese president Xi Jinping on Sunday, a spokesman has said.

Swiss authorities had given a two-hour time limit to the protest in the centre of Bern to avoid the kind of confrontation that marked the last visit by a Chinese president 18 years ago.

Several people near a security zone set up for the state visit reportedly failed to comply with police instructions. Arrests were made and police also prevented a man from setting himself on fire, before handing him to doctors for treatment.

From Peak to Alpine heights: Hong Kong to Liechtenstein
At the heart of Europe, Liechtenstein. At the heart of Asia, Hong Kong. The connections between these two unique places are formed through business, governments and deeply, deeply personal bonds.

Photo: Minister Frick shaking hands with Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the HKSAR Gregory So upon the signing of the Liechtenstein-HK FTA in 2011.

On August 15th, the people of Liechtenstein celebrate their Principality in the Schloß Vaduz garden and in the capital city of Vaduz. Far, far away, Liechtensteiners in Hong Kong celebrate in their hearts.

HT discovers a little of the magic of this unique enclave through the thoughts and words of H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois von und zu Liechtenstein, Dr Aurelia Frick, Minister for ...

Why mainland visitors flock to Liechtenstein

I recently visited the tiny landlocked European country of Liechtenstein, which is only about twice the size of Hong Kong Island with a population of a little over 30,000, but which has risen to the top three in GDP per capita in recent years.

Liechtenstein is famous for its beautiful postage stamps, but what caught my attention during my visit was its rapid sinification.

Despite its tiny size, Liechtenstein has become a highly popular destination for mainland holidaymakers.

Just walk on the main street of the country’s capital Vaduz, and you can easily see two giant flags flying high at the center of the s...

Is “the Sleep of Death” (Psalm 13:3) a Conscious State?
Author’s Response in Early 2016 to His Own Teaching in June 2010:
“The Departure from the Body” on Sunday Night Bible Study
June 27, 2010 at the Christian Missionary Alliance in Aurora, In.

It was not wrong to state that “Scripture refers to death as sleep.”
Introduction
This statement is supported in the teaching by dozens of biblical passages:
Scripture refers to death as ____________ (1 Kings 1:21; 2:10; 11:21; 11:43; 14:20,31; 15:8,24; 16:6,28; 22:40,50; 2 Kings 8:24; 9:28; 10:35; 12:21; 13:9,13; 14:16,20,22,29; 15:7,22,38; 16:20; 20:21; 21:18; 24;6; 2 Chronicles 9:31; 12:16; 14:1; 16:13; 21:1; 25:28; 26:2,23; 27:9; 28:27; 32:33; 33:20; Acts 7:60; 13:36; 1 Corinthians 15:6; 2 Samuel 7:12; Deuteronomy 31:16). On earth, Jesus awakened some from the dead (Matthew 9:24; 27:52; John 11:11-14). Except for the believers who are alive (1 Thessalonians 4:17; 1 Corinthians 15:51-52), Christ’s coming (1 Corinthians 15:18-20,23) o...

Canada is not all evil. Actually, we housed some Canadians who visited in the late 90s when there was a flood. They helped clean up the country church building (looked like a barn, but was warehouse or something), but I suppose that many may be able to understand that (especially to someone with my views) it's not even slightly a compliment to threaten my life with "go back to where you came from, Canadian." That's gross.

The sun blazed; the wind cried; the sand hurriedly scurried by, racing over the desert's surface, rushing toward a growing cloud that colored the pale canvas brown. To write and to left, behind and ahead, haze blurred the edge of the earth and toward that horizon in every direction stood solemn dunes, swept lifeless streams. Endless the wasteland seemed around the weary traveler's feet: as wind whistled and sun blazed, active, empty silence reigned!
