Sounds dangerous :) its going away from PoW from what i know, so nothing good for bitcoin.

No, Avalanche doesn't affect consensus, because is pre-consensus. It improves 0-conf safety, which is needed for adoption. Forfeits are great, but only useful for big purchases.
1963d
What is Avalanche?
1962d
"Avalanche does not affect consensus because it is pre-consensus" ??
1962d
It would work better like this
1962d
"Avalanche does not affect consensus because it os AFTER consensus"
1962d
What does Avalanche once a block is mined?
1953d
Seems like a good idea to me.
1953d
0-confirmations accepted on exchanges is not new. XVC had that on Poloniex about 2 years back.
1951d
PoS pre-consensus, really? is this still bitcoin?...
1951d
If avalanche is soft-fork, can the pre-consensus pow be replaced with pos also as a soft fork?
1939d
Amaury explains it better and simpler:"Basically, it is like Ripple" RIP
1937d
Avalanche seems like a great idea the more I hear about it. Helos scaling, and protection against double spends.
1917d
I'm not sure why so many people are assuming they will jump straight into PoS with Avalanche, they've said they eventually intend to base selection on PoW contribution for over 100 prior blocks
1917d
I think it's an elegant and practical solution. I was a fan of 0-conf forfeits, but I think that this will add a considerable amount of security
1916d
Anybody knows if avalanche will make it into BCH?
1916d
Never, if they're lucky.
1906d
Avalanche preconsensus does have some good potential. Can't wait to see how well it works.
1905d
Is it in alpha now?
1894d
Just when I thought they are not going to do it

I feel like avalanche is to shorter block times as segwit/LN was/is to bigger block sizes. Change my mind?! (Also see https://blog.ethereum.org/2015/09/14/on-slow-and-fast-block-times/)

Just saw Emir's explanation on Avalance, and stumbled on some lines that tickled my brain.

If Avalanche can be applied to BCH, that would be awesome. However, I have to be honest I have yet to understand how this is a secure method. Probably I'm still missing some bits and pieces.
1765d
I am now optimistic of Avalanche.

The BEST way to explain what Avalanche is and how it can work for BCH as well as AVA is using an animated doodle. Would someone please make one?
