Who's "we" when you state your belief that "we've" consented to all these rules? It's at least you... but why begrugingly state you consent when clearly it bothers you and you don't.
you haven't defined willfully submit.
Is it true that one can become enslaved to biological urges (i.e vice)?
No. Terms like slavery, coercion and repression do not mean anything without a conscious moral agent doing the enslaving or coercing. Morality requires consciousness and intent.
Heroin cannot make any meaningful choices, only I can. To say you are a slave to an inanimate object is to to declare yourself devoid of any agency and give up your claim to being human.
Such misuse of language in an attempt to excuse poor decision making is a massive insult to actual slaves and should be considered a moral/character failure like animal abuse, IMO.
Can liberty exist where people voluntarily abide by certain "lowest common denominator" rules?
It is part of liberty to be able to chose to give up your liberties or to chose someone to rule over you.
LR is Zeigeist Movement advocating for positive or negative rights?
From what I have seen mostly positive rights, a toned down version of the "Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism" support for technocratic governance based on scientific method.
The main point I can see is an argument against things like planned obsolescence (from a monopoly/oligopoly) and perverse incentives, but the main claim is that problems are structural.
That mental health, income inequality, uneven distribution, almost all crime is man made because of the structures that we make, that it is not inherent to existence or nature.
yeah seems like positive rights. which require some level of slavery of others. trying to cut through the buzzwords is tough.
Liberty is the natural state of mankind. It only doesn't exist if men surrender to other men.
Ok thats nice to say (I agree liberty is the natural state) but what does surrender look like in practice?
Is cooperating with the police/courts “surrendering”? Is signing a contract to work for someone “surrendering”?
Is not actively rebelling (eg not paying taxes, bombing gov buildings) against a gov “surrendering”?
thanks for a genuinely interesting link LR. Dont agree with it but it’s somethings different.
this seems like a preemptive effort to further bury our heads in the sand & pretend there are no differences between groups of people.
