There seems to be all the talk about how preconsus will change things alot, ranging from solving 0conf to forking off the chain. I understand the idea, but what options are there?

I do not get it myself, it is about making miners chose the next block size by some mechanism to reduce the size and make shorter block times more feasible.
To be able to dynamically change the block size based on the history which could help block propagation, but graphene seem do be able to block propagation faster and better.
The size of the mined blocks will just be the included transactions anyways, it will not save any space, and it seems to be related to making smaller blocks with smaller block time.
It is just an idea for now, time will show if it will be adopted or not, there may (think ulikely) be a fork. Part of the drama is that Craig Wright hinted towards using patents -
- to stop it, which would be antithetical to the open source and non-central governance of Bitcoin Cash in general. Seems that is what the fuzz is mostly about, methods not ideas.
