In terms of what made "Bitcoin" bitcoin, the only thing the Core (soft)fork retains is the ticker. The only thing Core cares about is being backward compatible so it'll have a claim for the brand name.

So Unite.Cash utilizes IPFS to host, view, and play content posted there using the BCH op_return. Memo can look at the code to see if it would be interested for media storage/use.
Memo will likely be adding IPFS support. Not sure when though.

BCH is simply an update for Bitcoin that was not sanctioned by the Core developers. Because it doesn't need to be. That's decentralised development. That's Bitcoin.
