It all depends on what the goal is really. If you want players to be able to play each other online in a cash game for small or large amounts you need to be able to use cash P2P. That's where Bitcoin helps. Immutable history of moves is also a plus.
I am not a Go player myself but I don't see why not. You could use the same model as Blockchain Poker and use Bitcoin for payments between players, or you could do that and also store each move within a Bitcoin transaction. Immutable record of moves.
